The facts
- The International Astronomical Union voted on August 24, 2006, in Prague to make Pluto a dwarf planet. IAU
- Under the IAU's definition, a planet has to clear its orbit of other objects, which Pluto doesn't do. Wikipedia
- NASA's New Horizons flew past Pluto on July 14, 2015, and sent back the first close-up photos, including its heart-shaped plain. Wikipedia
Facts checked against their sources on November 4, 2026.
Why people are split
The yes side grew up with nine planets and thinks a vote by a few hundred astronomers shouldn't erase one. The no side says science updates when it learns more, and Pluto has plenty of company out there.
How people voted
The live split shows on the card as soon as you vote. The vote count appears here once 50 people have voted.
A fun poll that anyone can vote in, once per device. It's not a scientific survey.
